Year 5 Fire Station Visit Year 5 children at Thongsley Fields enjoyed an exciting morning of extracurricular education at Huntingdon Fire Station on Thursday 16th April. They took part in a carousel of activities designed to heighten their awareness and understanding of how they can stay safe themselves and help keep others safe. They learned about Dog Safety from the education team at Wood Green, with many pointers to a good common sense approach to respecting and interacting with dogs. They considered the importance of wearing a bicycle helmet when cycling and how this can be a life saver. They also sorted consumer products into safe, dangerous and age restricted categories and considered why age restrictions are imposed and whether they are stringent enough. They were entertained by two different teams of fire station staff who dealt with fire and water safety. They delivered their presentations with humour whilst at the same time communicating strong, clear messages about the importance of knowing safety rules and procedures. They also had their school learning about cyber bullying reinforced by the police who gave a clear message that unpleasant messaging received through texts, social media, or online activity is wrong and gave them guidance as to how these issues can be dealt with. Year 5 at Thongsley Fields would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to the Fire Service and Huntingdon Fire Station for hosting this informative and thought provoking event.
Another step closer to Sunny Hunny! Mrs Cooper and her fundraising friends have been busy this week going the extra mile to raise funds for the whoel school trip to Hunstanton.  The Double Disco on Thursday, the Easter Raffle and the Easter Bonnet parade together raised an amazing £612 to go towards this summer trip.  Thank you to the huge amount of support from everyone.
Spring has Sprung! Celebrations for the start of Spring have well and truly started at Thongsley Fields.  On Tuesday 17th March, Mrs Gaskell ran an easter bonnet making workshop which was attended by around 30 people.  Families worked together to create their Easter Bonnet masterpieces!  On Tuesday 24th March, the whole school joined together to look at the amazing creations.  There were so many wonderful entries and the winners were chosen by Mrs Housego, our chair of governors. Other Easter events this week include the Easter Raffle for which tickets are 20p each.  This will be drawn on Friday.  The Easter Egg Hunt will be on Friday.  Keep your eyes peeled for a visit from the Easter Bunny!
Cash for Comic Relief Last Friday, the Thongsley children came together to raise money for Comic Relief.  We asked the chidlren for 50p which bought them a token which allowed them to have crazy hair and wear a red nose.  Each class learnt a dance ready for a performance in the afternoon.  Much fun was had and an amazing £160 was raised for this fabulous charity!
Easter Bonnet Parade On Thursday 24th March, we will be having an Easter Bonnet Parade.  We ask for you to support your child in designing and making an Easter Bonnet.  To enter the parade it will cost 50p per child.  There will be prizes for the best entries in each key stage.  School are excited to be able to offer a workshop session for you to join your child to make the bonnet in school on Tuesday 17th March from 3.30pm -5.00pm.  A letter will be sent home inviting you in for this session and places will be offered on a first come, first served basis when the reply slips are returned.  We look forward to seeing all your wonderful creations!
